Gauss Field Looper 2.0

The Gauss app, co-designed with Berlin-based electronic musician Hainbach, brings the art form of oldschool tape-looping to mobile devices. This versatile field looper can be used as a standalone app or as an Audio Unit effect plugin. It puts the power of looped tapes right in your hands, without the need for scissors.

Gauss takes you off the grid of your DAW and allows you to adjust tape speed and direction, even during recording. This creates an organic, drifting flow to your loops as the tape follows its own cyclical timeline.

With features like overdub and the ability to use multiple instances of the Audio Unit plugin, you can create complex and ever-changing sonic palettes.

Gauss is designed to celebrate digital audio technology, and when audio quality is degraded, it does so in a pleasingly crunchy digital way. For example, recording at low tape speeds will give you longer recording time but at the cost of lower recording quality.

In addition to tape speed adjustments and overdubbing, Gauss captures the essence of two ends of tape stuck together in all its unsynchronized, free-running glory. It even includes a unique built-in 4-step polyrhythmic sequencer for sequencing tape speed changes.

The Gauss app is designed as both a standalone field recorder and an Audio Unit effect plugin (AUv3) in one package. It is a universal app that works on all iDevices running iOS 11 or higher. With variable tape speed, seamless direction and speed changes during playback or recording, a built-in multi-mode filter with LFO modulation, and a delay effect with optional host-sync mode, Gauss offers a wide range of creative possibilities.

Gauss also includes a "1989" mode that uses a special 8-bit/11KHz tape head to recreate a vintage digital sound. The maximum loop size is 45 seconds at 1x speed, with longer loop times at lower speeds.
